Position statement for patient information resources

The DRIPP Collaborative has been approached to produce patient information to support patients with vascular access devices. We recognise the importance of patient information to empower self-management of conditions as appropriate, have a better understanding of health or illness, and to make informed choices and decisions regarding their treatment.

As a collaborative, we are not in a position to produce individual patient information documents regarding vascular access devices and urinary catheters. This is because of the huge number of different devices, their specific care and the vast amount of treatment options that can be provided by different organisations. Some of DRIPP resources available, in particular, urinary catheter care and urinary catheter avoidance may easily be adapted by healthcare professionals for patient use as they are based on the best available evidence.

Instead, we recommend that patients seek information from their health care provider as this will ensure that the right information is provided to support the specific care and treatment to the right patient.
